Part 6 Sun, Planet Wheels, and new carrier float

Описание к видео Part 6 Sun, Planet Wheels, and new carrier float

Part 6 (the 2nd) I removed the Carrier Wheel from the segment of the 1st part 6, checking carrier float, because it fits later. The Carrier float can still be checked with the CW mounted, but not with the pinion, and the Sun & Planet wheels have to be installed before the CW, cause the Planet wheel PIN gets blocked by the CW. Nuf said. As I explore (not sure what to expect) the rebuilding my differential, I have documented my steps, so the next explorer (novice mechanic, includes me too) will have some idea what the road ahead is filled with. Constructive comments are welcome, warnings about what to avoid would be appreciated. Not attempting this myself was already offered, so with that said, I say I wanted to try anyway.. If I had known about the really big problems before hand? maybe the adventure would not have had the impact, or the glory of the battle (or what ever). How tough are these English Iron Differentials? or just the 'English Iron' I will know when it's finished, and on the road again. Preferably not on a car carrier headed back home. Getting into the pinion rebuild had a big surprise. How much TORQUE does it take to set the bearings & get that little amount of squish for the preload? (That will be in the pinion segment of my diff series.) Video documenting each step is time consuming, actually it's the editing, takes 4 times the time... another story... :-) (edit 11July2015 - no part 7 yet, part 7.5 shows pinion done correctly, without blowing past the crush sleeve upper per-load limit, I reused the head spacer, replaced brgs, oil seal, and nut, and a new sleeve on that one) Part 8 about Sun & Planet wheel reassembly was not realized due to bad magnetic base causing multiple readings on different segments, would not hold tight to make good readings, and the magnetic base vid was deleted. Important Update 24 June 2020: The differential Sun gear's fiber thrust washers can fail. Copper replacement is the general agreement with some forum members about this. I am pulling my differential after about 28,000 miles to see why the gear oil has BB size fiber pieces in it.
