Amanda Waller, a middle-aged African American woman whose entire being was sass and knowing how to get the job done; even DC’s OG ace card Batman was wary of Amanda Waller. And boy, that says a lot. On page fifteen of the crossover story ‘Legends’ by DC, Rick Flag tries to assert himself over a woman, not believing who he saw to be the individual in command of a certain intimidating Task Force X. All that is needed to shut Flag up as he later makes unwelcome remarks on the lady’s plans is a singular smirk from the Nell Carter-esque woman with purple eyeshadow on, wearing black business attire. The only thing tighter than the tension in the room was the lady’s hair in a bun. We bow to artist John Bryne.
She might remind a comic aficionado of Nick Fury from the Marvel universe, but Amanda Waller is a whole package on her own, and no comparison is needed. John Ostrander surely had a few things in mind when he created Amanda Waller – the woman whose persona spoke volumes before she said a word. All the way back in 1986, it was Ostrander’s first creation for DC and as of 2022 – some 35+ years later – the Waller legacy is about to get a solo debut on screen. What a ride it has been, and we will reminisce about it with you today!
