Join us on our 11 night's stay at the Globales Almirante Farragut in Menorca. Is the hotel any good, is it somewhere we would recommend?
Located in the Los Delfines area of Cala n Forcat in Menorca, we selected this hotel due to the fact that it is an area renowned for being family friendly. We can tell you straight away that the island of Menorca is stunning and we would recommend for anyone with kids.
With plenty of stunning coves and beaches, the stunning city of Ciutadella and with beautiful harbour towns such as Cala n Bosch to visit, what is there not to love?
The Globales Almirante Farragut, is advertised as a 4 star all Inclusive hotel. We booked via TUI for just over £4k for 11nights for a family of 4. As this was mid-August, i.e. peak time, we figured this was great value.
Pleased bear in mind that this was our first family all-inclusive trip and we believed it would save us a lot of money as all food and drinks were included. But did it?

Summary of hotel...
Rooms - We got two rooms, one single and one triple. This was a bit of a letdown. We did not want to have one member of the family sleeping down the corridor, so we all piled into the triple. To say it was very cosy, is an understatement. But, the room was for sleeping in only, so we did not let this dampen our spirits. It can be noted that the rooms were cleaned daily and they were very comfortable, with each having their own balcony and some great views.

Staff - All very friendly and all that we spoke to were polite and would do everything within their power to assist with any questions and concerns you had.

Food - You have a huge restaurant and a pool side food court. We actually found that our kids loved the food in the poolside area, but, not so much the restaurant. At the poolside area, breakfasts were nice and the snacks provided throughout the day, were spot on for kids on holiday. Pizza, burgers, hotdogs and chicken nuggets, basically every kids dream selection of junk food.
As for the restaurant, the food was 'OK', nice looking nice, but not tasting as good as it looked.. The desserts however were their saving grace. Great selection of fruits and cakes and a good selection of cheeses and salads if you wanted to avoid a lot of the special meat dishes, which were on offer.

- Pool and facilities. So it does have good pools, two big ones, one about 9ft deep and another about 4ft deep + it has a little child's pool with slide. Teh staff also provide entertainment at various times throughout the day to try and get the holiday makers out of their sunbeds. But and this is a big but, If you are not queuing up before 8:30 for a sunbed, it is most likely that you will miss out. Most people, threw towels on sunbeds and that was it for the day. Infact out of 11 days, we found 2 free beds on one afternoon, and other times we ended up sitting on seats at the pool bar. This basically, ruined our experience with the hotel. We paid extra for all-inclusive to spend time near the pool and enjoy the entertainment, but as we did not get up at silly o'clock to get a sunbed, we did not spend any days by the pool.
Mini Golf, is good but don't try it when it is very hot as it is not fun. 18 holes it took us about 2.5 hours..!

- Cala n Forcat Beach. The beach next door is great. Shallow enough for young ones to paddle & when you go out approx. 50 yards it was great for snorkelling and it was also great for cliff diving. We all loved it except for when teh jellyfish came in!

After 3 days, we all did get a bit bored or the beach and as we could not get to the pool, we started venturing to other areas and beaches. Of course, as we were going further afield, we could not abuse the all-inclusive drinks and food. And that is when the holiday got a bit more expensive than we had planned. The local area Los Defines and Cala n Forcat town, have great bars and restaurants. It also has a great waterpark. Cala N Blanes beach is also about a 20-minute walk, which we really liked.

Other families we met, all appeared to be staying in villas. And as this holiday eventually ended up costing in excess of £6k with the additional money we spent eating & drinking out, we think that is the way to go if you have children.
At €3 a pint and with meals at €15 for menu of the day at many local restaurants, it would have been far cheaper for us to actually book a villa and we would have had the benefit of a pool we could have used...
So, Globales Almirante Farragut, an inclusive 'Rs dream, good hotel, but we are definitely going self-catering in the future...
