Treasure Timbers | I turned this pile of driftwood planks into a coffee table | part 1: preparation

Описание к видео Treasure Timbers | I turned this pile of driftwood planks into a coffee table | part 1: preparation

I visit the beaches along the shores of the Indian Ocean on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa often and spend a lot of time beach beach combing for seashells, sea glass and driftwood, among many other curiosities. A lot of the driftwood gets repurposed in my workshop and on this channel I aim to upload working with not only driftwood, but also other flotsam and jetsam. I use a basic set of woodworking power tools, nothing very fancy.

Recycle, repurpose and reinvent - take care of the environment by reusing resources, this is the message you will find in my Treasure Timbers videos.

In this video I tackle my most ambitious project yet, a driftwood coffee table. This video deals with part 1: preparation.

MY MEASUREMENTS:

Top = 50cm lengths at 1.8cm thickness (most are 10cm wide, but some are a little narrower)
Support (aprons) = 1m at 2cm thickness
Legs = 40cm at 1.8cm thick (they vary a lot in width and some even taper)
Feet = 80cm at 2cm thick (10cm wide)

The braces (stretchers) will be created after the basic assembly of the top, aprons and legs. I want to look at my creative options as the stretchers can go in a variety of places. I want them to be a prominent feature of the table.

You can follow along, use what you have on hand, it’s an uncomplicated formula and you don’t need heavy equipment. In fact, the entire project can be completed without power tools.
