Visiting DUBROVNIK's Franciscan Monastery | Heart of the OLD TOWN!

DUBROVNIK, CROATIA: I spent the morning exploring the Franciscan Church and Monastery, home to a historic pharmacy, church and library. Some say it’s the oldest pharmacy in Europe!

The monastery is a big tourist attraction and lots of people visit it whilst in Dubrovnik. It’s conveniently situated on the Stradun right in the heart of the old town. There are plenty of tours that will walk you around and tell you all about its vast history - introducing you to both the new and old pharmacies, the historic church and a courtyard of pretty gardens.

I decided to visit on my own and without a tour guide - allowing me to take my time and enjoy a slow walk through the cloisters, library building and displays. If you have a few days in Dubrovnik then visiting the Franciscan Monastery is a must!

Whilst on the tourist trail I decided to stop off at the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation (Crkva Svetog Blagoveštenja) which was built in 1877 and is just a couple of minutes walk from the Stradun.

After strolling around the old town for another hour or two I found the steps where the hit TV show Game of Thrones filmed Cersei's Walk of Shame scene. Although I hadn’t watched the show myself I was able to find a few online photographs and compare what was seen in the TV show to the actual filming location. If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan the Historic Stairs are still worth a visit - and maybe even a photo or two.
