The human handlers found that they could no longer rely on mental maps of familiar routes, as buildings changed entry and exit points to manage the flow of human traffic and conduct SafeEntry measures. They have become much more dependent on their canine partners to get around.

Restrictions on movement also took a toll on the guide dogs during the circuit breaker in 2020. Guide dogs are working dogs who are used to being out and about. Being at home more than usual led to anxiety issues, according to handlers and experts.
