GRAFULLA "Washington Grays" March (for Brass Quintet)

Here’s a lesser known but great march from a composer who, these days, could also be called both of those things. Claudio Grafulla was a very popular American composer during the mid-nineteenth century, but his music is seldom played these days. I think this march is, as the kids these days say, “a banger.” While the chordal structure is rather standard for a march of the period, the piece is rich with melody, some challenging technique, and interesting counterpoint.
