A Genesis-styled cover of Cheap Shop, the shop theme from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

A few notes about the arrangement:

This is probably my favorite song from the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The bossa nova chiptune groove is so good. Even though Scott Pilgrim's music is more 8-bit inspired than 16-bit, I like the song too much to not give it a try.

Typically setting the tempo within the constraints of NTSC clock speed is a bit of a chore and takes some time, but for this song it only took a few minutes. Guess the guys in Anamanaguchi considered the hardware restrictions of retro consoles when composing!

Predictably, this arrangement makes heavy use of the SN76489 channels to replicate the square waves from the tune. I learned a lot about which tracker effects apply to square waves and which don't, as well as using the arpeggio macros in the STD instruments for the first time. The SN76489 channels are way more versatile than I had imagined!

Since I relied so heavily on the SN76489's ability to produce actual square waves, parts of this song sound pretty much identical to the original. This arrangement might not be so much about reimagining the tune, as much as it was an opportunity for me to learn more about how to use STD instruments. Regardless, I learned a lot and enjoyed making it.

If you have any suggestions or tips about the composition please let me know, I'm looking to improve!
