The Telegraph Trail

The Telegraph Trail (Telegrafruta in Norwigan) is a historic hiking trail between Rusånes in Saltdal and Bjellånes in Rana. The trail follows the telegraph line that was built in 1867 over the mountain. The total length of the trail is 61 km. Most of the trail is over the treeline, which gives you a lovely view during the hike. There are four DNT-cabins along the trail, Bjellåvasstua, Midtistua, Saltfjellstua and Krukkistua.
The telegraph line was taken out of service in the 1950s and the line was later dismantled.
During the hike you will be able to see the stone foundations of the old telegraph poles.
The telegraph trail crosses the Arctic Circle.
