Yomi Adegoke: My breakthrough story

Journalist and author of Slay in Your Lane Yomi Adegoke discusses unpaid internships and imposter syndrome in journalism, and how her sister’s career gave her hope she could forge her own a path forward.

“I wrote about popular culture, but I also wrote a lot about race and sexism and feminism and things that back then at least, people didn't necessarily want to hear about that much. I ended up having to start my own publication to get my column inches up, because I just couldn't get commissioned anywhere or get an internship anywhere.”
