712 La Cimbali Group Shroud mounting and Gasket Installation, test

Installing new group gasket 400-181-010 or similar. Check and replace gasket. Spacer 400-238-010 is sometimes used to have the portafilter basket to sit properly. Note: gaskets or spacers will change the amount of coffee fill. This is for a La Cimbali M28, M29, M30's group.

01/26/16 additional information; There are other similar group heads that have gaskets put installed in a similar fashion using a tight fit grip to keep the gasket (a rubber ring) from falling out when the portafilter is removed. If this happens then your gasket is old, too big, cracked, etc. Use a strong light to check the rubber. It should be firm but not hard or crusty (your portafilter will leak out the sides indicating a poor seal.
** Okay, you should always use the correct part from Cimbali, etc. etc. **

Now for the "Coffee Commando": it may be possible to use other gaskets of similar size as long as it will stretch over the inner head. you will need to add more spacers to get the portafilter to seal up in the right position with the handle pointed directly at the operator. Another trick is not to touch the old gasket at all as once taken out it will probably fall apart leaving you with a useless group until a new gasket can be installed. Check the portafilter baskets. Quite a few places don't use a proper dump box and have a habit of slamming the cups on metal edges or bare rods that have worn rubber covers. replace the dented baskets and be sure to cover the dump box rod with rubber. (Try using a piece of old Cimbali drain hose(s); the black hose first and then the clear 'extension' hose for extra covering.) These tips may get you going till you can come back later with the right parts.
