Описание к видео Sustainable Chicken Farming 101: Your Ultimate Self-Sufficiency Guide

In this video we answer questions asked by our subscribers on poultry farming for self sufficiency. We take you through several stages and factors to consider.

One point to note is that we are a self sufficiency farm. We are very ethical to our birds. We don't give them any hormones and we let them be as natural as possible.

The first step is to identify a good Cockerell and good hens to produce the next generation. A good Cockerell is healthy, good size and physically fit. It will will good genes to the offspring. A good Hen has a good size, nice Feathers and lays big eggs. The ratio of Cockerell to hens must be reasonable to ensure that all the eggs are fertilised. We use one Cockerell to 8 hens.

When the hens start laying eggs, you can leave them in the laying nest or pick and store them pointy end facing down. Always give the hen fresh eggs, less that two weeks old to lay on for hatching.

A chicken that is ready to lay on eggs to hatch will stay in its laying nest for a day or more as opposed to the normal one hour for laying eggs. We give our hens 12 eggs to hatch but this depends on the size of bird and wingspan. It should be able to cover all the eggs and keep them warm.

The Chicken will hatch eggs after 21 days. The first days give them warm water with glucose and multivitamin. Also give liquid paraffin to help with digestion. unless you are an expert in Chicken fed making, give them starter feeds to ensure they have a balanced diet.

Self sufficiency poultry farming means you treat the birds well and as natural as possible. Let the chicks stay with their mum as much as possible so t can learn to forage well.

Vaccination is important and keep to schedule. Give the chicks ginger, pepper and aloe vera regularly to boost immunity.

Remember the birds enjoy outdoors so let to forage
