What is MCHC Blood Test?

The full form of MCHC is Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration. This test measures the average amount of hemoglobin in the red blood cells in your blood. Hemoglobin is the protein that works to deliver oxygen to every part of our body. If the amount of hemoglobin in the blood decreases, it can cause many problems in the body. MCHC test shows whether the level of hemoglobin in the blood is correct or not.

This test is done under CBC Test i.e. Complete Blood Count Test. The main purpose of getting this test done is usually to check and treat anemia. Doctors find out what is the risk of anemia and at what level of treatment is to be done on the basis of the results of both CBC test and MCHC test.

Why is MCHC Blood Test important?

With the help of MCHC Blood Test, doctors can understand whether oxygen is being supplied properly in your body or not. If the amount of hemoglobin in the blood is low, it means that there may be a lack of oxygen in various parts of your body, which can cause fatigue, weakness and other health problems. This test also shows whether you have anemia (lack of blood).

What problems are detected through MCHC Blood Test?

Many types of health problems can be detected through MCHC Blood Test, some of which are as follows:

1). Anemia: If there is a lack of blood in your body, it can be easily detected through MCHC test. There can be many reasons for anemia, such as iron deficiency in the body, vitamin B12 deficiency, or bleeding. MCHC test also reveals what type of anemia you have.

2). Low hemoglobin level: If the amount of hemoglobin in your body is low, it may mean that oxygen is not reaching your body properly. This test gives information to doctors about your hemoglobin level, so that they can provide the right treatment.

3). Kidney and liver problems: MCHC Blood Test can also be used to determine kidney and liver problems in the body. Any disturbance in these organs can affect the condition of blood in the body.

When should MCHC Blood Test be done?

If you often feel tired, have difficulty breathing, feel weak, or have headaches, then the doctor may advise you to get MCHC Blood Test done. Apart from this, if you already have anemia or you are suffering from any kind of health problem, then this test can also be necessary. This test gives you information about the correct condition of hemoglobin in your blood, so that your health can be improved.

What happens when MCHC increases

1. Risk of blood clotting increases

2. Excessive fatigue and weakness

3. Increased risk of heart attack

4. Increased risk of pulmonary embolism

5. There may be problems in pregnancy

What happens when MCHC decreases

1). Organ damage may occur

2). Oxygen delivery to the body will be disrupted

3). Hair may start falling out rapidly

4) Risk of heart diseases increases

Why is MCHC level low (Causes of low MCHC levels)

Low MCHC levels occur due to many reasons. Its causes include iron deficiency anemia, thalassemia, kidney disease, blood loss, lack of nutrients in the body, sickle cell anemia, bone marrow disorders and extreme low blood pressure.

If you are suffering from the problem of low MCHC levels, we advise you to consume more iron supplements, make necessary dietary changes, consume more iron-rich foods, and exercise.
