Yenya punhi (Indra Jatra) is a major festival which dates back to ancient times. This historical practice can be traced back to the reign of King Pratap Malla. However, according to legend, this tradition has been prevalent even before his time, as it is mentioned in the Rigveda, Bhavishya Purana, and the Mahabharata.
In Harisiddhi, this festival is celebrated in three phases:
a) Giving "Samayabaji"
b) Worshiping the symbol of Indra, the local administrator.
c) Participating in a horse dance (known as "Salcha Pyakha").
