What is Clindamycin ( Cleocin )?

Clindamycin is a Lincosamide antibacterial. It is a bacteriostatic agent. It binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of the bacteria, leading to inhibition of translocation steps for protein synthesis.

It is available as 75 mg, 150 mg and 300 mg tablets. And also available as oral solution, injection, vaginal cream and topical gel.

Common uses include orofacial infections, cellulitis in beta-lactam intolerant patients, oral treatment of diabetic foot infections, prevention of bacterial endocarditis in patients unable to take amoxicillin, acne, bacterial vaginosis (usually topical), anaerobic lung abscess, pelvic inflammatory disease.
