Dog Training, Enzo, Lagotto Romagnolo, Day 1: Evaluation Walk | Jumping | Follow | Blairsville, GA

This is day 1 of Enzo’s 2-week board and train.

Enzo is a male puppy about 6 months old. He is an Lagotto Romagnolo. This breed is known as Italian water dogs and hunt waterfowls. They also are known as “truffle hunters” in Italy. They have a very keen sense of smell. Historically, this breed is a working breed and requires mental stimulation. They excel in agility, obedience and tracking. This breed can smell out water and mud and great distance with their nose. They love to swim! And, they love to dig in the garden. This breed is not recommended for first time dog owners.

Today, Enzo had his evaluation walk and e-collar training began with the informal loose leash walking command: Follow. In addition, a release command was taught “break”. Introduction to "sit and wait" was started along with an introduction to the "place board" as an object. Crate training manners were also evaluated.

With all dogs in this program I'm increasing Distance, Duration, Distractions on command to a high statistical level 99.99%. When dogs enter the program their level of distance and duration on command is usually very low because of distractions. I specialize in distraction training and increasing focus.

The first week of the program the focus is in-home manners training. The second week of the program manners training is out in public. I travel with Enzo to all the beautiful towns, hiking trails and parks in the North GA, as well as Western NC area. This program challenges Enzo in the 3 D's of dog training -- Distance, Duration, and Distractions with all of his commands.

In addition, I teach sign language along with the verbal commands. As dogs age some experience hearing loss. Pet parents report they are able to communicate with their senior dogs with sign language.

Commands on and off leash included as the program progresses:

Release command - break
Recall - come
Boundary Training - place
Stationary Commands: sit and wait (It doesn't matter if Enzo "sits" or "downs" just so he is stationary)
Leash Walking - formal command "heel and sit"
Leash Walking - informal command "follow"

Enzo is wearing a martingale collar (control collar NOT a correction collar). He is also wearing a SportDog Model 825X. Each dog's equipment in the board and train program is customized over the 2-weeks to ensure that they are sent home with the correct electronics and individualized settings.
