Everyone loves Ludwig Drums. From the time Ringo Starr and The Beatles performed on the Ed Sullivan show, that drum brand practically became a household name. Drummers like John Bonham with Led Zeppelin only furthered that brand image, especially since Bonzo used incredibly unique Vistalite and stainless steel shells that Ludwig perfected at the time!

The best shell Ludwig ever made was the maple/poplar/maple three-ply, clear interior shell from the early 1970s. It's got all the vintage vibe that you'd expect out of a vintage drum, but there's something that just feels a little more musical and a little more aligned with my ear than the earlier drums. I can't describe it more than that, so just listen to the drums in this video to hear these things for yourself!

Audio was captured with two Universal Audio Apollo x8p interfaces using 1073 preamp modeling. Mics include:

SE Electronics V-Kick (Kick In)
Dr. Alien Smith Alien8 (Kick Out)
Shure Unidyne III SM57 (Snare Top)
Rode NT55 w/ Cardioid Capsule (Snare Top)
Audio-Technica ATM650 (Snare Bottom)
Sennheiser MD-421 (Each Tom)
AKG C414 TLII Pair (Overheads)
Apex 210B Ribbon into Soyuz Launcher (Room)
Shure 588SB (Vocal)

I use Logic Pro X, Waves Audio plugins, and I love beef jerky.

Oh, and that cool mic cable? It comes from Sorry Cables in LA. – https://www.sorrycables.com/
