Share what's going on to avoid misunderstanding

Do you open up and share how you're feeling or what's going on for you with your family, friends, and team?

Or are you a closed book, keeping it all to yourself?

Tonight on Ask Leah, I talk about the importance of sharing information with those around you, particularly if it helps to explain a change in your behaviour.

It's not about over-sharing; rather, it's giving people enough information to understand what's going on.

Otherwise, in a vacuum of information, people will make up their own stories and those stories can often be far off the mark.

Like your child thinking you're frustrated and angry at them when the reality is it's a stressful time at work and you're finding it hard to switch off at home.

Or a colleague thinking your closed door means you're disengaged when you're working to a deadline and need to focus.

Or the friend who thinks they've done something wrong because you cancelled dinner when the truth is you're menopausal and struggling with insomnia.

A little vulnerability and communication can go a long way to minimising misunderstandings and building empathy.

And if you have a communication, leadership, self-management, emotional intelligence, or tricky "people stuff" question you'd like answered, send it through and I'll answer it in a future episode.
