Drone Poem 26

26th entry of my regular practice of drone sketches using the East Beast semi-modular synthesizer by Cre8audio.

Patch and Performance Notes:

East Beast Patch and configuration:
LFO Out to Filter Mod In
Midi In (receiving clock from Reaper for sequencer)
Oscillator set to Sine + Square
Filter set to LFO (Yes, I'm boring)

Valhalla Supermassive settings:
- slightly tweaked "We Are Stardust" preset

This drone features a slowly clocked sequence moving between two notes several octaves apart (an F and Ab, making up a super distant minor third. Though rapid FM does make the original pitch/harmony a little hard to recognize. Might be interesting still to try with other intervals. Maybe even Major one 🤮).

The goal here was to utilize some foundational movement between pitches as a means of creating more movement than just having a note ring out forever. The East Beast's internal clock runs a little too fast for this, so I borrowed Reaper's ability to send a slower clock. Still, I would've preferred it a touch slower (it's 15 BPM here at quarter notes. Allegedly the East Beast can divide external clocks further, but I wasn't able to get that to happen for whatever reason). Still, this turned out to be a surprising patch and experience for sure, and like Poems 24 and 25, using methods other than infinitely sustained notes to send to delays and reverberation is proving to be a really compelling exercise.

Also, I love how I can just fall back on the East Beast and have it never cease to surprise me despite it being a relatively simple synthesizer.
