In this series, I want to dive even deeper into the world of Indian food and show you guys what goes into making these mouthwatering dishes. Come with me to Bombay Darbar in Miami as I show you how they make one of my favorite Indian dishes, chicken tikka masala!

Chicken tikka masala is a creamy dish is made up of boneless pieces of chicken that are marinated in dahi (yogurt) and lots of spices, and served in a curry of pureed tomatoes, cream, coconut cream, and a masala mixture.

There are many theories as to who first created the dish; some say it was the South Asian community that immigrated to Great Britain, while others say it was Bangladeshi chefs who moved to the UK. Another popular theory claims that a British-Pakistani chef invented it in his restaurant in Glasgow, Scotland.

There are lots of variations, but the dish has become so popular in Great Britain that it's now considered one of the country's national dishes. There, it’s commonly referred to as “CTM.”

The dish is very similar to another popular chicken dish, butter chicken. But butter chicken contains less tomatoes than chicken tikka masala, while chicken tikka masala is less creamy.

Also, butter chicken (murgh makani) is a creamy blend of tomato sauce and spices. Chicken tikka masala is a little different and has a creamy tomato gravy and onion sauce. The two dishes look very similar, but they have subtle differences in flavor.
