Heron and Magpies

The White-faced Heron and Australian Magpies share the same territory. Although the White-faced Heron occasionally hunts insects in the fields like the Magpies, they predominantly hunt for frogs or Yabbies in the ponds. They accept each others presence and generally stay out of each others way. We have seen the Magpies observing the Heron but it seems mostly curiosity rather than animosity. The Magpies do attack other birds, especially during nesting season, and for some curious reason the magpies really don't like the white Corellas. We have seen them attack those noisy white cockatoos at all times of the year, on our property and elsewhere, but have as yet never seen them attack the Herons.
