Chettinad Onion Curry
Ingredients

To Make Masala Paste

Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
Roasted Gram - 1/4 cup
Fennel Seeds - 1 Tsp
Poppy Seeds - 1 1/2 Tsp
Red Chillies - 5
Water

To Make Chettinad Onion Kosu
Oil - 2 Tbsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Urad Dal - 1 Tsp
Cinnamon
Clove
Cardamom
Onion - 2 Sliced
Green chillies - 2 Slit
Curry Leaves
Potato - 1 Chopped
Tomato - 4 Chopped
Salt - 1 1/2 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala - 1/2 tsp
Ground Masala Paste
Water
Chopped Coriander Leaves


To a mixer jar, add half cup freshly grated coconut, quarter cup roasted gram, one tsp fennel seeds, one and half tsp kuskus seeds, five red chillies and grind it to a fine paste.
To a pressure cooker, add two tbsp oil, once the oil is hot, add half tsp mustard seeds, one tsp urad dal, a piece of cinnamon, some cloves, few cardamoms and a stone flower and roast it.
Then add two onions thinly sliced, two green chillies slit, few curry leaves and sauté the onions for two minutes.
Add the chopped potatoes with the onions.
Add the sliced tomatoes and saute it.
Add one and half tsp of salt , half tsp turmeric powder, half tsp garam masala powder and mix it all again.
Lets cook till the tomatoes turn soft and mushy.. Once the tomatoes are cooked, add one and half cup of water, mix again and allow it to cook till two whistles.
Add the freshly ground masala paste and mix it all in. Add a cup of water, mix well and allow it to cook for 10 minutes or till the raw smell goes.
Add the chopped coriander leaves and mix it all well.
Chettinadu Onion Curry is ready to be served nice and hot with piping hot soft idlis or dosas of your choice…
