Der Geher in Hamburg: Volksdorf

Описание к видео Der Geher in Hamburg: Volksdorf

I am Der Geher and I walk through Volksdorf in the borough of Wandsbek. From the Volksdorf train station, the path first leads past the swimming pool and then to Eulenkrugstraße. Through the pedestrian zone "White Rose" it goes back to the railway station. A few steps in the Volksdorfer Teichwiesen nature reserve and it continues through a forest and past residential houses to St. Gabriel Church, where the path ends.

Volksdorf, named after the village founder Volkward, has always been characterised by forest. In the 15th century it became part of the Hamburg forest villages and peasants were obliged to serve the lord of the forest. In 1867, the hunting rights went to Heinrich Ohlendorff, who built up a modern, large-scale agricultural enterprise. This also brought progress in terms of transport links. Volksdorf thus became an attractive place to live. Today, about 20,500 people live here.
