Champagne Lacourte-Godbillon Terroirs d'Ecueil Premier Cru & Champagne Moussé L'Esquisse

In this month's theme we look at two concepts, Place and Passion. Place refers to the idea of terroir and its purest expression. Terroir is a French word, which relates to specific environmental conditions and elements of a vineyard site. It includes, but is not limited to, the micro-climate, the temperature, rain fall, aspect to the sun, latitude and also the human hand - it’s a sense of place in the vineyard.

Both Maisons featured this month are family estates with all fruit grown under the watchful eye of the family with absolute precision. Both estates share a passion which is hard to replicate and absolutely infectious. Family run with small teams, the dedication of the winemakers is exemplified in each cuvée. The organic approach and diligence in letting the vine speak allows the story of the terroir to be told.

Lacourte-Godbillion is located in the Premier Cru village of Écueil which specialises in Pinot Noir. The House plants cover crops between rows to encourage competition for the vines. The Maison has an average vine age of 33 years, lowering yields and as a result increasing intensity of the fruit. The
passion of Richard and Geraldine allows for maximum expression of their unique terroir in the Montagne De Reims.
