GELLIGAER ROMAN FORT AND VILLAGE.

Recorded on Thursday the 7th of March 2024. I walked three miles from Bargoed to the village of Gelligaer ( GETH -LEE-GAER) through the Merthyr common to take you the ancient Roman Fort. Gelligaer is part of the Rhymney valley and Caerphilly county borough in South Wales, just three miles from my home town of Bargoed. There are Roman training camps on the common between Bargoed and Gelligaer but I couldn't find them so I started filming at the village where the actual fort is. The Common was used for an episode of Doctor Who "Tooth and Claw" in 2006 where it acted as a Scottish Moore, starred David Tennant, Billie Piper and Pauline Collins as Queen Victoria. Gelligaer Roman fort is actually mentioned in the Doctor Who spin off " TORCHWOOD" : " End of Days" . Starring John Barrow man, Eve Mikes and guest starred Murray Melvin, a fine actor who was in the film "A Taste of Honey" (1962). I take you around the village where my family lived.
