Measuring can feel daunting and stressful, but it's actually very easy. Too often this step is over thought and then people get confused. This video was made with the assistance of my husband, who does not drive or know anything about horses, in the hopes that he would have questions that would help me better help you!

A few tips:
1) Using a soft fabric measuring tape is a must. I have the normal 60" long tape for my minis and small ponies and a longer 120" tape for when I measure horses and draft horses.
2) It's best to have two people when measuring. It just makes it easier, especially with the big horses and draft horses.
3) For the minis and small ponies using a sliding carpenter square is a great way to measure height. (If you don't have the official measuring stick.) Using a stiff carpenters measuring tape works well too!
4) You MUST use two carpenter squares to measure for a collar. OR use two L shaped pieces of cardboard. Do not guesstimate at this measurement.
5) Please measure each part at least 3 times.
6) Make sure to catch your horse and tie it up to get more accurate measurements.

After you place your harness order someone from Chimacum Tack will contact you with any measurement questions. We do this to ensure you are going to get a harness you can use straight out of the box. Please don't be offended when we call to chat about them. We see many many measurements every day and are pretty well versed in what size brow band or girth should fit certain sized equines. If something seems quite off we will want to be sure you measured correctly.
If you have any questions about measuring please don't hesitate to reach out to [email protected] or call us at 224-HAR-NESS (224-427-6377)
