The story begin with Saheb ragpicker who is looking for the gold in the garbage. He left his home in Dhaka a long back. The author tell about how the poor children walk bare foot on a road calling it as a tradition,but instead , it might BN excuse to hide their poverty. She get reminded of a story where a man from the Udupi told her that he prayed for the pair of the shoes, 30 years later when the author visited the temple and the town, she could see a little boy walking in his shoes.

Sahib live in the Seemapuri a place at a peripheri of Delhi devoid of resources like sewage, drainage and running water. Almost 10000 rag pickers live here without any identity but a ration card. The author describe the garbage as a gold for the rap pickers because it provide a living for them where is it is the gift of wrapped for the children. After all they sometime find a coin or a 10 rupees note in the garbage. The author talk the two sides of the society where are rich kid discarded a pair of the shows because there is the hole in them but Saheb does not mind wearing the same shoes with a hole in them.

Later author see the Sahib working at the tea stall and it paid 800 rupees along with the meal. He is carrying the Steel cancister. The author say that he has lost his carefree attitude and looks down cast. The author see that how the steal cansiter look heavier then his plastic bag which was his and the Steel cancister is of the tea stall owner.
