Total War: SHOGUN 2: Fall of the Samurai 1vs1: Kihetai vs Imperial Infantry
Clan: Choshu vs Satsuma
Battle Difficulty: normal
*Note: Both of them used Kneel Fire, no Suppression Fire.

Unique to the Choshu, Kihetai are somewhat inferior guard infantry when compared to their peers. However, they are still significantly better than standard line infantry, and can be trained in unlimited number unlike other guard units. In addition to being strong in combat, they inspire nearby men and don't suffer from winter attrition, making them ideal for spearheading offensives during winter months. Kihetai use older model rifles when compared to Shogunate/Imperial/Republican Infantry, and so unfortunately fire more slowly than their statistics may suggest. Their base reload rate is 18 seconds; this stands in poor contrast to SIR infantry's base reload rate of 10 seconds. As base reloading skill for Kihetai is 55, their default reload speed is 8.1 seconds. Due to their reload animation not being able to be cancelled, Kihetai's reload rates are capped when they reach 85 reload skill, completing reloads in 2.7 seconds. Available at second-tier barracks, Kihetai can be acquired much earlier than any other elite infantry, and even a good portion of line infantry. This can make Kihetai a mainstay of Choshu armies for much of the campaign.

As their name suggests, Imperial Infantry are available only for factions with Imperial allegiance. Together with Shogunate Infantry and Republican Infantry, imperial infantry represent the best non-limited line infantry available to most factions where they are available. With few exceptions, they are inferior only to elite infantry, but such units are usually limited to only a few regiments. As superior line infantry, imperial infantry have superb accuracy and reload skill, but their melee statistics remain relatively poor when compared to dedicated melee infantry or cavalry. Imperial Infantry are available only to imperial-aligned factions. They disband automatically if their faction switches allegiances. However, Shogunate-aligned factions can obtain imperial infantry by bribing them with Shinsengumi. Some other line infantry, such as Vermilion Bird Force and Kihetai, have nominally better accuracy and/or reload skill. However, Shogunate/Imperial/Republican infantry use breech loading rifles that have a much faster reload animation than the muzzle-loading rifles other line infantry use. In practice, this makes SIR infantry the deadliest line infantry at shooting than any other line infantry save SIR elite infantry and the foreign elite marines. With the investment of certain Ishin Shishi skills, imperial infantry can even be cheaper to recruit than other line infantry, making them the best line infantry in all ways in the mid to late game.
