Axolotls, unlike many amphibian species, are a neotenic species that can survive in aquatic environments without reaching sexual maturity before entering adulthood. In other words, they retain their larval characteristics after they grow up. Therefore, most axolotls do not land on land like an adult amphibian and remain in the aquatic environment. One of their most striking features is their broad, fringe-like outer arms, clearly visible when viewed from the side thanks to the branchiomeric formations on their heads. In the scientific world, axolotls are famous for their regenerative abilities. When these creatures lose a leg, tail, or even an organ, they can completely regrow them again.
