A superb evening spent at Cheddington on the West Coast Mainline where we see plenty of services from London Northwestern Railway, Avanti West Coast and plenty of freight from Freightliner, GBRF and DB Cargo UK.

The station was opened in 1838 by the London and Birmingham Railway and was formally a junction station for a branch line that went to Aylesbury High Street which was used by a mixture of freight and passenger traffic. The freight traffic would typically consist of cattle wagons taking the animals to Leighton Buzzard where they would be sold at the farmers market in the center of the town. The line remain opened until 1964 until it was finally closed.

The station has been unstaffed since 2013, although as of 2017 there has always been a security guard here.

The only real significant thing that happened at Cheddington was the Great Train Robbery of 1963 which occurred 1.2 miles down the line at Ledburn Junction.
