Recent elections to the European Parliament have been now reflected by main commentators in the main media outlets. What is often missing in the generalist outputs is the specificity of concrete implications of the elections on concrete sectors of the economy. Three remarkable journalists specialising on reporting on competition and the digital economy matters Lewis Crofts ( MLex), Samuel Stolton (Bloomberg) & Javier Espinoza (Financial Times) are not only the most competent and eloquent – they also sense the trends before they start becoming mainstream. They are happy to share their views in a very easy-going, friendly and informal way. It is our second panel (the previous one was recorded in 2023:    • Competition Policy in the Media: Lewi...  )
In the new conversation, which we recorded just a few days ago Lewis, Samuel and Javier offer a great deal of really insightful reflections on the implications of the elections on the DMA, ex-post competition law enforcement and far-far beyond. We discussed in particular:

🔎 How the results of the latest elections will influence the enforcement of the DMA
🔎 Will there be an appetite for more legislation or rather will the focus be placed on strengthening the enforceability of the existing ones
🔎 What overarching goal of the new Commission will likely to be
🔎 Have the main MEPs-protagonists of the DMA been re-elected and what their agenda will likely to be?
🔎 Will the signs of the shift to the right have their implications in the area of digital markets
🔎 The contours of a new industrial policy in the area of the digital economy
🔎 How important the political leadership for enforcing the DMA is and who the main candidates for these steering roles are likely to be?
🔎 Who will be briefing the Commissioners responsible for enforcing the DMA
🔎 Will the digital agenda remain at the front pages of the main media
🔎 What is the most boring name an antitrust journalist can mention to their news editor
🔎 The DMA fatigue?
🔎 The clash of EU mottos
🔎 What did the CEO of Ericsson said about Europe
🔎 Is Europe competitive globally – looking at the West and at the East
🔎 The impact of the Foreign Subsidies Regulation
🔎 Is all innovation good innovation
🔎 Does Europe (qua EU & UK) need their own digital infrastructure or should we make the current infrastructure controllers to comply
🔎 The D-(-ivestiture)-word
🔎 Recommendations to academics intending to increase visibility of their research
🔎 Recommendations to students

The Digital Markets Research Hub is an independent academic initiative aiming at scrutinising the functioning of competition/regulation in digital markets. We host one-to-one interviews with leading policymakers, regulators and practitioners. We also organise online mini-workshops inviting high-profile experts and academics in various fields of digital competition law & policy to discuss the most vibrant issues of the ongoing regulatory reforms in digital markets. While having our clear normative stand on the matters discussed within the hub, we value different views and invite relevant stakeholders and thinkers representing the whole spectrum of reasonable positions on how to regulate competition in digital markets. All our materials are available at YouTube channel, which you are very welcome to subscribe to. The panel is organised & conducted by Prof. Oles Andriychuk, Newcastle University Law School, UK
