The 1973 Lionel MPC Era 8303 Blue Streak Locomotive & Tender

One of my favorite MPC era (1970-1986) locomotives is the 8303 2-4-2 Jersey Central Blue Streak locomotive with Pullmore motor, headlight, smoke and Mighty Sound of Steam Tender. This was part of the 1973 Lionel Blue Streak set that is not prototypical but has a unique color scheme that evokes the colors of the more famous and more expensive Blue Comet locomotive also released by Lionel in the 1970s. It was packaged as a freight locomotive but has the pulling power to take on a reasonable 5 car passenger load if needed. I picked up this beauty at a train show last year on a bargain table with tender for just $35.00. It needed a good cleaning and some lubrication to bring it back to life after over 50 years of both intense service and quiet closet time. I love bringing these beauties that helped keep the Lionel company or at least the name in business. Hope you enjoy!
