Composer: Joe Hisaishi
Lyricist: Kaku Wakako

This lyrical version was a bonus track on the Spirited Away soundtrack. Specifically, from the Spirited Away Image Album.

Hey - I'm so happy this video is ready! Spirited Away (directed by Hayao Miyazaki) has been one of my favorite movies since it first came out. I've never seen anything quite like it and it affects me (and many other fans) in a profound way. It's one of those movies I have to mentally prepare to watch/hear because it's so moving! D':

In this arrangement, combined the lyrical version with one sung only in "la's" from one of the soundtracks. I wanted the first part of the cover to focus on the solo voice/piano, and the last part to have a choir/piano combo with almost distant la's that are also leading at the same time. That being said, this was a very challenging song to mix and cover! I've been trying to cover this song for about 3 years now, but I kept putting it aside and saying I wasn't ready yet. Hisaishi songs, man!
I want to thank my Mom for helping me with the Japanese pronunciation here. I called her many times and we sang it together over the phone while I asked her questions on how to say certain words. Sometimes, even though my brain knows how a word should sound, my mouth can't quite produce the sound, so I really practiced a lot with each phrase. I've done songs in Japanese before, and I wanted to work on improving my accent here. My mom and I were back and forth saying "ATSUI.... ATSUUUUII. atsui? Atsui." Even though I've been saying that word (atsui=hot) since I was little, every time we get inside a hot car before turning the air on - I was still pronouncing it differently at first. I took a lot of time with the Japanese here and will practice more in the future. :)

I just love this song and movie, and am happy to have covered this. Thank you for listening and for your support.

Lyrics:
Aozora ni sen wo hiku
Hikoukigumo no shirosa wa
Zutto dokomademo zutto tsuzuiteku
Asu wo shitte'ta mitai

Mune de asaku iki wo shiteta
Atsui ho o samashita kaze mo oboeteru

Mirai no mae ni sukumu teashi wa
Shizuka na koe ni hodokarete
Sakebitai hodo natsukashii no wa
Hitotsu no inochi manatsu no hikari
Anata no kata ni yureteta komorebi

English translation (by satoru-13):
The whiteness of the clouds left behind by a plane
Draw a line across the blue sky
Always, no matter to where, always continuing
As if it knew tomorrow

In my chest I breathed in a shallow breath
I remember the breeze that blew on my hot cheek

The hands and feet which are bound before the future
Are freed by a quiet voice
So nostalgic that I want to scream out, is
One life, the midsummer light
At your shoulder, swaying, the sunbeams streaming through the leaves
