Serenade of the Hearth - Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

By demand, I've reduxed my old arrangement of Serenade of the Hearth, which I first recorded some 10 years ago now, on a bad quality camera with an out of tune piano (like everything else back then). Unlike my recent videos, this is an actual live performance on an electric piano, recorded on my H1.

This hypnotic serenade is one of the standout tracks in the Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia soundtrack, with a deceptively simple melody floating above an even simpler accompanying figure. Yamane's "resting" themes constitute an underrated subgroup in the Castlevania oeuvre. "A Fleeting Respite" (Dawn of Sorrow), "A Small Prayer" (Portrait of Ruin), "Fog-Enshrouded Nightscape" (Lament of Innocence), "Sarabande of Healing", "Blue Serenade" (Curse of Darkness), and "Serenade of Sympathy" (Dracula X Chronicles) are all lush showpieces that have as much restorative power as the characters and scenes they often accompany. In that respect, "Serenade of the Hearth" is almost unwelcoming in its cool simplicity. But it is always a comfort to listen to, and it often reminds me of Wygol Village's jade evening sky, with the storm clouds in the distance.
