Aluminium is the commonest cookware in our kitchen. Aluminium is called Slow Poison. It reacts with atmospheric oxygen and readily forms Aluminium oxide which is a neurotoxin. We are routinely using Aluminium and non-stick cook wares in our day to day life. Long time usage of aluminium vessels in cooking causes health issues like thyroid problems, Alzheimer’s disease- Memory loss, indigestion, heart burning, gastritis etc. Acidic foods like tomatoes, lemon, curd should not be cooked in aluminium vessel. Aluminium retains only 10% of the foods micronutrients. Cooking and serving foods in aluminium containers was used as a punishment for the prisoners/freedom fighters by the British rulers in India.

Another form Aluminium is non-stick cookware. Non-stick cookwares were Teflon coated, which makes cooking and washing up fast and easy. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic fluoropolymer coated on them. Cheap non stick cookwares cause cancer. Indolium or Hindalium is an alloy of aluminium magnesium, manganese, chromium and silicon. Using this kind of cookwares should be avoided for the better health of our family.
