English:

Here are rare recordings of two songs dating back to the 1896 Revolution against Spain.

The “Marangal na Dalit ng Katagalugan” composed by Julio Nakpil was used as the anthem of the Haring Bayang Katagalugan, the revolutionary government established by Bonifacio and the Katipunan. In 1903, Nakpil will incorporate the song to the “Salve, Patria”, a triumphal march dedicated to Jose Rizal who is considered by many as the National Hero of the Philippines.

The “Alerta, Katipunan!” is a march associated with the 1896 Revolution. It is theorized that the march was originally used by the Spanish guardia civil, but adopted by the Katipuneros and given Filipino lyrics.
