The approach and landing were made in a Cessna 182 at Canefield Airport (TDCF) on the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies. Gusty crosswinds and mechanical turbulence plagued the approach over the hilly town of Roseau but decreased over the displaced threshold for Runway 01. The flight occurred about a year before Dominica had been devastated by Category 5 Hurricane Maria.
