Maria receives advanced treatment for large b-cell lymphoma at the Barnhart Cancer Center at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in Chula Vista, California.

While this is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma among adults, Maria’s condition was extranodal — meaning the site was outside her lymph nodes; a very rare form of cancer. Thanks to her vigilance about health, the cancer was found at Stage 1.

Medical oncologist Dr. Kenneth Johnson and radiation oncologist Dr. Phillip Zentner advised a course of treatment lasting several months. Maria received three rounds of chemotherapy and 20 radiation treatments.
