In this video, JJ and Denali show us how important transitions really are and how they help us in so many ways. Denali is a beautiful, fancy guy, but like so many horses, he tries to talk his rider into accepting too much contact and just doesn’t like to “wait.”

Correctly ridden, frequent transitions not only help the horse learn to wait, they can really help him learn to use his hind legs evenly and accept more weight behind while maintaining a long neck. In turn, this creates an even and light contact, which then allows for more clarity in the aids and eventually leads to amplification of the gaits.
