There comes a time in a young or green horse’s life when they learn about collection. The canter-walk transition is the first time they have to truly engage the hind legs in a way they haven’t had to do in other transitions. This can be challenging to the horse, mentally because they often don’t realize they can do it, and physically because it really is harder than just trotting first.

In this week’s video, JJ shows us how she sets Zuckerfee up to be successful before she asks for the transition, and walks us through exactly how and when to apply the aids.
