Directed by Valerio Zurlini in 1965, LE SOLDATESSE (Girls for the Army) is an Italian film set in Greece during the Second World War, in which the horrors and suffering of the war are seen through the eyes of a group of prostitutes intended to entertain a few soldiers...

Mario Nascimbene was commissioned to compose the film's music. Given the context of the film, Mario Nascimbene chose Greek music, of which the bouzouki is essential. He also varied his musical palette by including dramatic symphonic passages. Add to this the « Sirtaki Di Eftikia » sequence, reminiscent of Mikis Theodorakis' famous Zorba the Greek. Nascimbene has always been an extremely adventurous composer, leaving behind a rich musical legacy. LE SOLDATESSE is the proof.
