The Aquarius Eco Ship concept design is an ongoing comprehensive study project led by Eco Marine Power of Japan focused on the design of a large ocean going ship such as a bulk carrier, oil tanker, RoRo vessel or cruise ship, to harness the power of the wind & sun using Aquarius MRE. This green ship study project incorporates a range of technologies ranging from ship solar power to fuel cells and air lubrication.

The centre piece of the Aquarius Eco Ship is Aquarius MRE (Marine Renewable Energy) - an innovative and patented fuel saving and emission reduction system developed by Eco Marine Power in Japan. This system incorporates a variety of elements including solar panels, energy storage modules, computer control systems and an advanced rigid sail design known as an EnergySail.

The EnergySail's can be used as single devices or an an array for the purpose of providing ships and vessels with sail-assisted or wind-assisted propulsion.

Other companies involved in the project include: The Furukawa Battery Company, Teramoto Iron Works and KEI System.
