We discuss Kirchhoff's Loop Rule and find that it is simply a law of conservation of energy and nothing more.

Kirchhoff's Loop Rule: The algebraic sum of changes in potential around any closed loop involving resistors and cells in the loop is zero.

We see that this rule is just another was of saying law of conservation of energy. Why.? We know that electric potential is dependent on the location of the point. Thus starting with any point if we come back to the same point, the total change must be zero. In a closed loop, we do come back to the starting point and hence the rule.
