Unweighted vs. Weighted Fall Away Nose Cone Water Rocket

Will a weighted fall away nose cone make any difference? Several launch comparisons are performed with an unweighted fall away nose cone weighing 0.4 oz and a weighted one weighing 1.0 oz. The slight weight difference yields surprising performance results. The additional weight enhances the law of inertia. An aspect of this law is the tendency of objects to keep moving in a straight line at a constant speed, when no forces act upon them. Hence the additional weight improves the following:

1. Straighter launches with or without a rail system
2. Helps rocket cut through windy conditions (5 – 15 mph)
3. Helps nose cone fall off at apogee for gentle recovery or parachute deployment
