There were stories she said, of those that sacrificed their whole lives to uncover the hidden horrors. Some had gotten close, building on generations' work, building through countless lives until the reveal: that they could bleed, they could be killed but upon the fulfilment of one condition.

Every avatar of the ancient would assume an earthly form via a single command, unique to each: a name. Sarah and Thomas were not the first to have encountered this one. Others, long dead, have managed to track its origin all the way through the mirror shade of the real, through gateways to the ether. There they hid a deep secret, a means to an end they could not use themselves, leaving it to their children, and their children's children to finish the fight.

Sarah was close to finding that place, but it could not be breached by a single human. Together, they would venture into the depths of the gateways, hopping from Egypt to London, Alaska, Tokyo, and countless cities in search. All the while the madness leered, the universe sang, and the avatar encroached, closer, and closer still.

The god-forms were hungry. And they were ready to feed.
