Policenauts NEC PC98 1994 Brief Playthrough

(This playthrough just goes to start of the game to the beginning of the space flight towards Beyond Coast Space Colony)

Since PC98 emulation is actually going somewhere this these days there will be some titles on this channel. Most will be brief playthroughs as I don't understand Japanese, but do have a translator on my phone and the PC98 mostly has mostly adventure or visual novel games especially of the eroge nature. Well I know how it's not exactly exhilarating to see a adventure or visual novel game playthrough, but I'll make a exception to some titles like Policenauts.

Policenauts is a game by Hideo Kojima who should need no introduction to most people who play videogames. For those not familiar he created the Metal Gear Series and Snatcher to name a few. Policenauts story is about Jonathan Ingram joining the first Police Force to protect the first Space Colony in 2010 called Beyond Coast. During a routine patrol Jonathon's space suit malfunctions and is lost in space. Twenty five years later he is found alive in a escape pod and forms his own private Detective agency. While in his office Jonathan's ex wife Laurine wants him for a job to find his remarried husband. Whether you accept or refuse the job she leaves and her car explodes. You then chase down the killer in a gun battle.

If you ever played Snatcher this title gameplay is pretty similar to it. Though Policenauts feel more advanced. It plays like an adventure title with gun battles. Thankfully Policenauts was fan translated into English for both the Saturn and Playstation releases. I have only completed the Playstation one, but from what I understand the Saturn version has more content so I'd go with that one if you are interested.

besides the Sega Saturn and Playstation releases. It was also made it's way to the 3DO and Playstation classics on PS3, Vita, and PSP. Though I believe the Playstation classics is only on the Japanese PSN store.

From what I remember this game was a lot of fun to play through especially if you like adventure games. I thought the writing was decent as well. So in conclusion just play the Saturn version English fan translation if you can. You won't regret it!
