Bikepacking in BOTSWANA: Elephant Highway, Makgadigadi Pans, Okavango Delta

We are Gaspard and Javi, two "cycling pirates" that now and then get 3 months off from work to cycle the world in an autonomous, adventurous style. This series of videos give a taste of our 2023 adventure crossing Africa from East to West.

This video shows our cycling journey through Botswana, covering 1'300 kilometers across diverse (flat) landscapes and remote areas.

We began in Livingstone, crossing into Botswana at Kazungula before heading to Pandamatenga. The ride took us through the vast expanses of the "Elephant Highway," a stretch known for frequent elephant sightings. We camped at remote spots like Antenna and Elephant Sands, where wildlife encounters were a constant.

Our route also led us through the surreal moon like landscape of the Makgadigadi salt pans near Gweta. We then cycled towards Maun, the gateway to the Okavango Delta, where we spent several days resting and exploring the surroundings.

Continuing on, we passed through Sehithwa, and slept in an antenna where we had a dinner with locals doing mining exploration. Each day brought new challenges and unforgettable experiences, from the remote wilderness to the interactions with local wildlife.
