The blood-red vineyard peach once disappeared from the slopes of the Moselle, replaced by monocultures. But now, people are rediscovering this culinary heritage. Monika Servaty, a gardener by profession, has dedicated herself to the Moselle peach. She grows small trees from peach pits and plants them in areas where viticulture is no longer profitable. Since the grape harvest and peach harvest often coincide, September is a particularly busy time for Monika. She tirelessly makes jam from the peaches and also prepares regional dishes like Dippekuchen, a potato-based dish. In the neighboring village, she makes peach mousse with her friend Herbert Budweg. Herbert has his own special passion: he makes vinegar from every type of fruit he can find — and peaches fit right in.
