In April we had a typical spring snow event that represents about 7% of our annual precipitation, which would be lost without swales. In our ecosystem swales are great for collecting moisture from landscape water for use increasing productivity and reducing drought.

I wanted to make this video because a lot of people in the permaculture community or adjacent to it love to hate these elements. Permaculture is full of techniques and swales are one of them, it is important that we do not get dogmatic about any of them and that we do a proper diagnosis of our ecosystem, site and goals and choose the best techniques to meet those ends.
