関東屈指の山車まつりといわれる「八王子まつり」には、精巧な彫刻が施された19台の山車が登場します。夜の巡行では灯火（ともしび）により山車が照らし出され、昼間とはまた違った幻想的な光景が広がり、巡行する姿は一見の価値があります。そのほか、市内の神社などに伝わる八王子市指定無形民俗文化財である獅子舞、夏空に響き渡る関東太鼓大合戦、浴衣姿の踊り手が甲州街道に集う民踊流し等、八王子が誇る伝統文化の数々を充分にご堪能いただけるものと存じます。4年ぶりに行われる真夏の祭典をお楽しみください。
Hachioji Festival
The Hachioji Festival, said to be one of the best float festivals in the Kanto region, features 19 elaborately carved floats. During the night parade, the floats are lit up by tomoshibi, creating a fantastical spectacle that is different from the daytime. In addition, Hachioji is proud of its traditional culture, such as the lion dance, an intangible folk cultural property designated by Hachioji City, which is passed down at shrines in the city, the Kanto Taiko Drum Battle that echoes in the summer sky, and the folk dancing dances where dancers in yukata gather on the Koshu Kaido.
